A highly experienced and trusted consultant

Jesse Panthagani is a highly experienced and trusted Consultant Ophthalmologist with a reputation for delivering outstanding surgical results and patient care. He combines deep clinical knowledge with the latest in medical technology to help individuals achieve clearer vision and renewed confidence.

With a career grounded in excellence and a focus on complex eye conditions, Jesse is known for his calm, clear approach and personal dedication to every patient he treats.

Jesse studied Medicine at University College London (UCL), earning a First Class Honours degree in Medical Sciences with Physiology, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He completed specialist ophthalmic training across respected hospitals in the West Midlands before undertaking advanced fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery.

In his current role as Consultant Ophthalmologist and Cataract Surgery Lead at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, Jesse manages a high volume of patients requiring complex eye procedures. He is also a College Tutor, supporting the training and development of junior doctors and aspiring surgeons.

How Jesse practises

Four quiet principles.

The working philosophy behind every case.

  1. Every patient's journey consultant led.

Assessment, planning, surgery and follow-up — the same surgeon from first call to final review. No handovers, no surprises.

  2. Evidence over enthusiasm.

I recommend the lens, the laser or the lens-exchange that the research supports for your eye — not the latest thing a vendor is promoting this quarter.

  3. Say no when no is right.

Not everyone benefits from surgery. If your eye will do better with glasses, contacts or watchful waiting, that’s what we’ll do.

  4. Teaching keeps the craft sharp.

I lecture UK trainees and contribute to international research — the same scrutiny I’d want from the surgeon operating on my own family.

Training & qualifications

Jesse’s fellowships, completed at Birmingham Midland Eye Centre and Southend University Hospital, placed him at the forefront of modern ophthalmic surgery.

His passion for research has earned national recognition. As a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, his work on patients with ocular mucous membrane pemphigoid — a rare but sight-threatening condition — led to the awarding of the Bowman Club Prize. He remains an active contributor to peer-reviewed journals and presents regularly at international ophthalmology conferences.

He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and holds registration with the General Medical Council. He is an active member of UKISCRS, ESCRS, BSRS and the British Medical Association.
