This privacy policy explains how Professor Jesse Panthagani’s private practice (“we”, “our”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects the information you give us when you contact us, book a consultation, or receive treatment.

What data we collect

• Contact data — your name, phone number, email address, postal address.
• Clinical data — medical history, current medication, prescription and ocular-health details, diagnostic imaging and measurements taken during consultation and after surgery.
• Payment data — billing details, handled securely via our payment provider; we never store full card numbers.
• Website data — we use two analytics tools to understand how visitors use this site:
  • Umami — a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool we self-host. It records aggregate, anonymous information (pages viewed, broad geographic region, device type, referring source) without setting any cookies or storing anything on your device, and without collecting data that could identify you. Because it stores nothing on your device, it runs without requiring consent. It also records anonymous interaction events so we can see which parts of the site are useful and which are confusing — for example that a button was clicked, how far down a page someone scrolled, which question in one of our self-assessment tools they stopped at, or that a chat was opened. These events record only the name of the thing you interacted with and where you were on the site. They never include anything you typed: not your answers to a self-assessment tool, not your messages to our chat assistant, and not your name, email or phone number.
  • Google Analytics 4 — helps us understand how visitors use this site (pages viewed, broad geographic region, device type, referring source). It runs in Google’s Consent Mode, which works in two stages. Before you make a choice on the cookie banner, and if you choose to reject, Google Analytics sends only anonymous, cookieless signals: nothing is stored on your device, no identifier is created, and the data cannot be linked back to you or to a previous visit. Google uses those signals to estimate overall visitor numbers. Nothing is sent to Google at all on the pages behind our staff logins.
  • The cookie banner offers two separate choices. Analytics allows Google Analytics to set two first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_BP9QKF8ENP, expiring after 24 months) so we can tell a returning visit from a new one. Advertising and personalisation additionally enables Google Signals, which lets Google add estimated age, gender and interest categories and recognise the same person across devices, using Google advertising cookies. Both default to off until you choose, and we do not run any advertising or remarketing campaigns from this data. You can change or withdraw either choice at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page, and we will ask you again after 12 months. Why we collect it

• To deliver safe, appropriate medical care.
• To communicate with you about appointments and follow-up.
• To meet our regulatory obligations under GMC, CQC and UK health-records legislation.
• To process payments for services.
• To improve this website.

How long we keep it

Clinical records are retained in line with UK medical-records guidance — generally for the duration of your care and for the minimum statutory retention period afterwards. Non-clinical data is retained only as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

Your rights

Data sharing

We do not sell your data. We only share data with third parties where necessary for your care (e.g. the hospital where your surgery will take place), to meet our legal obligations, or where you have given explicit consent.
